Software Compliance

Once your hardware is compliant, you must test your software, and upgrade it if necessary. In most cases, software manufacturers have recently conducted extensive Year 2000 testing of their products and have listed compliance status on their web sites.

Remember, there are 3 categories of software you must check for year 2000 compliance:

To determine if your software is compliant, follow these easy steps:

  1. Inventory your software, noting the title and version number.
  2. With inventory in hand, contact your software manufacturers to determine the status of Year 2000 compliance and recommended upgrades.

Most manufacturers have Year 2000 Web sites that allow you to check the status of your software products and download upgrades as needed. Some software manufacturers, such as Microsoft, provide tools that will automatically inventory the software on your PC and then provide reports detailing Year 2000 compliance status along with recommended updates.

System Compliance
System compliance means that your hardware, software, and data are year 2000 compliant. To test the software in your unique hardware configuration, you may wish to use the testing criteria suggested by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
